Bayern Munich’s Ryan Gravenberch is desperate for a move away for regular minutes – and the Bundesliga side’s pursuit of Joao Palhinha could pave the way for a move to Liverpool.

The Dutch midfielder joined the Bavarian outfit in 2022 from Ajax, with the German side seeing the youngster as a potential attacking midfielder.

However, the 21-year-old struggled to make an impression in the last 12 months, earning just six starts in his 34 appearances in Germany.

As a result, the player had been keen to leave the club in the current transfer window, and has since agreed terms with Liverpool over a potential deal, although the two sides are still yet to agree a fee.

Now with Fulham’s Palhinha nearing an exit for the Bundesliga titans, Thomas Tuchel’s side may feel better-placed to let the youngster leave, with a dynamic midfield option of their own drawing close to an arrival.

Jurgen Klopp is thought to be desperate to fill in the final slot of his midfield three, following the arrivals of Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai, both of whom have come straight into the fold.

Gravenberch fits the profile of player that the club are looking for, aged just 21 and versatile in the middle of the park capable of playing in an attacking role, as well as from a deeper position.

The Reds have a long-held interest in the promising young midfielder, and were interested in bringing him to Anfield before his £21million move to Bayern Munich last summer.

With a number of high profile midfield departures this summer Liverpool have been keen to reinforce their ranks in the middle of the park.

They lost Jordan Henderson (Al-Ettifaq) and Fabinho (Al-Ittihad) to Saudi Arabia, while Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Naby Keita and James Milner all left at the end of their contracts last season.

But Liverpool suffered blows in the market, with Chelsea twice pipping them to targets Moises Caicedo from Brighton and Southampton’s Romeo Lavia, leaving Klopp’s side keen to fill in their third midfield spot.

Manchester United remain in the background monitoring Gravenberch’s situation, in the hope the 21-year-old Holland international may even be allowed out on an initial loan though that seems unlikely at this stage with Bayern needing to recoup funds.

The German champions are also in negotiations with Chelsea for defender Trevoh Chalobah following the sale of Benjamin Pavard to Inter, while talks have also been held over Tottenham’s Eric Dier.
