But with the likes of Robert Lewandowski, Serge Gnabry, Leon Goretzka and Alphonso Davies now in the ranks, the shot-stopper believes Hansi Flick’s side is stronger than the one managed by Jupp Heynckes.

‘We are better positioned across the board,’ he said after Bayern’s victory over Lyon.

‘Now we have a class that not only includes the 18-man squad, it is fantastic what a great team we have.’

Bayern’s struggles at the start of the season saw Niko Kovac sacked in November but Flick has overseen a remarkable turnaround.

His side have the chance to match the achievements of the 2013 team by winning a treble after the they picked up the Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal earlier in the season.

And Neuer credited the Bayern boss with the club’s change in fortunes.

‘Calm characterises him, especially before games like this,’ the goalkeeper said.

‘He prepared us very well for the games, no matter which opponent we played against.

‘We always have a plan. You can see the result on the pitch.’
