Bayern Munich reserves boss Sebastian Hoeness has backed teenager Alphonso Davies to become one of the best left backs in the world.

The 19-year-old has made 16 Bundesliga appearances and started three Champions League ties for the German outfit this season.

And Davies, who joined Bayern last year, has been hailed by Bayern’s reserve team manager.

Sebastian Hoeness has backed teenager Alphonso Davies to become one of the best left backs

‘Phonzy is now one of the top performers on a regular basis,’ Hoeness told Goal.

‘If his development goes on like this, he certainly has the potential to advance to the top of his position internationally.’

The Canada international has been thrown into the pressures of the Bayern first team, who are currently one point clear at the top of the Bundesliga.

And Hoeness believes the fact that Davies has equipped himself at the high level means other young stars should be given a similar chance.

‘[Davies] showed that it can be worth throwing the boys into the cold water and giving them the opportunity to swim freely.

‘He previously played in the second team and indicated to me his great potential. He was always motivated and tried to get involved.’
