BBC apologises for ‘error’ in Strictly Come Dancing annual

The BBC has apologised after it used the same word search and quiz in this year’s Strictly Come Dancing annual as it did in last year’s edition.

A fan accused the book’s creators of ripping customers off after one eagle-eyed father spotted the repetition in a copy he purchased for his daughter.

Paul Coffey Tweeted to BBC Books: ‘How hard is to knock up a new word search and quiz rather than repeat last year’s in the #Strictly 2018 Annual?

‘My young daughter NOT impressed. #StrictlyRipOff.

Last year's annual (pictured) included brain-teasers like: 'Kevin had never been in the dance-off before series 13. But how many times was he left battling it out in the ballroom last year?'

Both the questions and the answers for the word-search and the puzzle were exactly the same as the 2017 edition.

They included brain-teasers like: ‘Kevin had never been in the dance-off before series 13. But how many times was he left battling it out in the ballroom last year?’

And the word-search required Strictly fans to be on lookout for styles of dance, such as ‘tango’, ‘paso doble’ and ‘cha-cha’.

Now, BBC Books has said sorry to fans and claimed the repetition was down to an error.

A spokesman told MailOnline: ‘Due to an error, the word search and quiz from last year’s Strictly Come Dancing Annual were included again in this year’s annual.

‘We apologise to all fans who were disappointed by this error and will make two new puzzles available to any fans who would like to receive them.’

It comes after fans accused the hit BBC show of a fix as it emerged all four finalists had a background in either dance or musical theatre.

Alexandra Burke, a pop star who has previously been directed by Strictly judge Craig Revel Horwood, Debbie McGee, who had her own dance school, and Gemma Atkinson and Joe McFadden have both worked in musical threatre.

The backgrounds of some of the most successful contestants prompted some fans to cry ‘fix’ as the weeks rolled on.
