  • BBC accused of not making proper search for schoolgirl’s bloodied clothing
  • Tim Davie will be quizzed by MPs today four months after Bashir Dyson report
  • Mr Davie now under fire claims Bashir asked to borrow clothes of murder victim

The BBC’s director-general faces a grilling from MPs today over another alleged Martin Bashir cover-up.

The corporation is accused of not bothering to make a proper search for a murdered schoolgirl’s bloodied clothing after it was lost by its once star reporter.

Tim Davie will be quizzed by MPs today – four months after the publication of the Dyson report into Bashir’s infamous Panorama interview with Princess Diana.

It appears the BBC failed to make full inquiries to locate the missing clothes – and didn’t even talk directly to Mr Bashir

But Mr Davie is now under fire over claims the former religious affairs editor asked to borrow the clothes of ‘Babes in the Wood’ murder victim Karen Hadaway for a documentary – which was never broadcast.

When the murdered nine-year-old’s mother asked for them back, it emerged they had been lost.

Now it appears the BBC failed to make full inquiries to locate them – and didn’t even talk directly to Mr Bashir.

Julian Knight, chairman of the Commons culture select committee, said the claims could prove ‘one of the most shameful episodes’ in the BBC’s history.
