BBC Two show is set to LEAVE the channel in huge scheduling shake-up

A beloved BBC Two show is set to LEAVE the channel in huge scheduling shake-up after six series

The hit BBC Two sitcom Two Doors Down is moving to BBC One after being renewed for a seventh series.

The comedy show, which began in 2016 and centres on a Scottish family and their irritating neighbours, has earned acclaim from critics throughout its run.

Now, BBC have confirmed that production on a seventh series will begin this summer, with the new episodes set to air later this year.

Co-creators Simon Carlyle and Gergor Sharp said: ‘We’re excited to be spreading our wings and lowering the tone as we introduce BBC One audiences to life in Latimer Crescent.’

It comes after Two Doors Down earned record-high ratings for its Christmas Special last year, with 2.8million viewing the special across 30 days on all screens.

Josh Cole, Head of Comedy and Steven Canny, Executive Producer, BBC Studios, said: ‘We couldn’t be more proud of the success story that is Two Doors Down.

‘It’s an absolute joy to work on and loved by a large loyal fanbase that have embraced these families and neighbours as though their own over the years! We can’t wait to get going on series seven and look forward to the move to BBC One.’

Jon Petrie, Director of Comedy Commissioning at the BBC, said: ‘Two Doors Down continues on its understated march towards classic BBC sitcom status with the last series pulling in some of its highest viewing figures to date.

‘We’re delighted to be doing more and are excited to see the show move to BBC One for a whole new legion of fans to enjoy.’

Star Joy McAvoy, plays wrestler Grado’s fiance Michelle, recently sparked speculation that the show could return for another run during an interview for BBC’s Hogmanay show.

When asked of her future career plans she said: ‘And some more Two Doors Down.’

‘In the summer we’re supposed to be filming that (series seven) but that’s still to be confirmed.’

Two Doors Down focuses on the middle-class neighbourhood of Latimer Crescent in Glasgow, and couple Eric and Beth Baird, played by Alex Norton and Arabella Weir.

The pair desperaely try to avoid one of drama after another from their loved ones and neighbours who love nothing more than stopping by without warning.

Last year’s festive special saw Christine, Beth, Eric, Ann Marie, Colin, Michelle, Alan, Gordon and Iain, gather in a small local coffee shop during a break from shopping.

Christine got into the festive spirit and splashed out on the food and drinks after discovering she had almost £70 of points on her loyalty card.

And after fearing that she would be spending Christmas alone, Christine was thrilled when she learned that her daughter Sophie and granddaughter Maddison would be coming home to celebrate the festive season.

Two Doors Down is available on BBC iPlayer.
