A beauty blogger was quick to criticize the newest launch of a highlighting palette designed for darker skin tones because it doesn’t accommodate pale skin and the internet is furious.
Popular vlogger, Kristen Leanne, took to Twitter to share her disappointment that the newest Huda Beauty 3D Highlighter Palette in Bronze Sands can’t be used on light skin tones even though the brand already launched two pale skin palettes a few months ago.
After receiving tons of requests and complaints from people who have been waiting a long time for a darker palette, the brand finally made one, but the 29-year-old vlogger doesn’t seem to understand that and took it personally by posting a since-deleted tweet which has fans enraged.
Uh oh: A beauty blogger was quick to criticize the newest launch of a highlighting palette designed for darker skin tones because it doesn’t accommodate pale skin
Mad: The 29-year-old vlogger, Kristen Leanne, (pictured) offended many when she sent the tweet because people with dark skin have been waiting forever for the Huda Beauty palette
Kristen tweeted out a photo of the new palette along with the arm swatches, writing, ‘Literally the top three people (arm swatches) couldn’t use any of these shades as a highlight.’
The top three people she was referring to were the lighter skin models in the photo. She then followed up in another deleted tweet, ‘It IS helpful but you’d hope with that many pans they’d make one light enough for lighter skin tones.’
Basically she was trying to make a point saying it’s helpful that the brand finally released a palette for darker skin, but why couldn’t they include lighter skin either, not realizing that they already did.
She even replied to an Instagram of the palette swatches writing, ‘Hmm those “highlights” aren’t even close to being light enough for the top arm swatches. What the heck.’
Deeper hole: The blogger from San Diego even went so far as to post this Instagram comment about the palette, still not realizing two light skin palettes were released last year
Argument: Kristen (pictured), was trying to make a point saying it’s helpful that the brand finally released a palette for dark skin, but should’ve included pale skin
Backlash: In response to Kristen’s tweet which wasn’t well thought out, people were furious and have been bashing her on Twitter
In response to her deleted tweets, people were outraged that she would even write such an ignorant thing because it doesn’t make sense and is offensive to some.
People with dark skin tones have been waiting patiently for makeup brands to launch products that would work with their skin because they have been mostly geared towards light skin for years.
So, when Huda Beauty released two highlighter palettes last year – Pink Sands for fair to medium skin tones and Gold Sands for medium to dark skin, fans were overjoyed.
Apparently, despite being a popular beauty blogger from San Diego with over 500,000 YouTube subscribers and 800,000 Instagram followers, she never got the memo that the Pink and Gold Sands palettes have existed since last year.
The newest addition to the brand’s highlighter palettes, Bronze Sands, which Kristen was criticizing, has not yet been released but was launched because ‘tons of requests for another edition with deeper shades that would give the most insane highlight on tanned and richer skin tones,’ were sent to Huda Beauty.
Angry: One user was so outraged by Kristen’s tweet saying there are already enough light highlighters out there
Upset: After receiving all the negative comments, Kristen responded with this tweet, not apologizing and saying she’s misunderstood
Stop: Once Kristen said she’s misunderstood, people got even angrier, like this user
People were furious when they took to Twitter to shame her for not knowing her facts and for offending those who have waited years to have makeup products designed for their darker skin tones.
One user immediately wrote back, ‘It’s almost as if… The world doesn’t revolve around white people. Black people finally get a damn product that works specifically for their skin and leave it to them to complain as if we don’t have millions of highlighters for light skin.’
While another person wrote, ‘There are plenty of pallets out that cater to only white people. Poc deserve some specialized palettes too.’
‘Apparently a lack of shades isn’t a problem worth tweeting about unless it leave out lighter skin tones, which are catered to the most. Super disappointing,’ said one lady.
Even with all the backlash aimed at Kristen from people reminding her that not one but two palettes meant for lighter skin tones have already been released by the brand and this is their third one for a specific dark tone, she still has yet to apologize.
Not innocent: Many people even called the blogger a hypocrite as she released this highlighter palette with Urban Decay and it only features light skin shades, not dark
Over it: Kristen (pictured) has still not issued an apology but has gone back to posting videos to her YouTube channel and is not addressing the issue
Despite since deleting her original tweets complaining about the shades, she posted another one that read, ‘Being misunderstood is a bummer. It would be cool if everyone knew everyone else’s heart. Goodnight.’
Digging herself in a deeper whole, many users were even more infuriated by her tweet saying she’s misunderstood.
One woman even wrote, ‘Were you also “misunderstood” when you wrote this on their Instagram before you brought it to Twitter,’ referring to Kristen’s earlier comment on Instagram about the swatches.
The woman went on to say, ‘We know what you’re saying sis. Let’s stop pretending that you’re better than what you portray.’
Another user even posted a picture of the palette the blogger released with Urban Decay which only has three shades, all catered to light skin, writing, ‘Uhhh baby girl you might wanna sit this one out because this was literally your collab with Urban Decay.’
Since the ordeal happened, Kristen has not issued an apology but has resumed posting YouTube videos to her channel, not addressing the situation.
