BEAUTY KNOWHOW: The classics – reloaded

BEAUTY KNOWHOW: The classics – reloaded

Even tried-and-tested favourites can be improved on. Here’s my pick of the best updates

Clinique iD: Dramatically Different Lotion (£36, clinique.co.uk) A beauty doyenne that has already branched out into two extra textures: an Oil-Control Gel and Hydrating Jelly. Recently, it’s evolved further – you can customise the formula by adding a cartridge of active concentrates. Choose one to suit your specific skincare needs.

Weleda Skin Food Light (from £7.95, weleda.co.uk) The original remains unchanged, but added to the lineup is this lighter version. With the same key ingredients (calendula, camomile, rosemary) and just as hydrating, it also contains shea butter and cocoa seed butter, so it glides on. Can be used on face, hands and body.

Johnson’s Baby Lotion (£2.25, sainsburys.co.uk) The range, so synonymous with childhood, has had a major makeover. Gone are any parabens, phthalates and sulfates – as well as more than 400 ingredients, including dyes, so this lotion is no longer pink. But it does still have the sweet smell of nostalgia about it.

Aveda Shampure Nurturing Shampoo and Conditioner (£15.50 and £17.50, aveda.co.uk) The silicone has been replaced with abyssinian oil (a natural alternative) – but not much else has changed for these two. Hair is left shiny and soft, the luscious aroma (from 25 plant essences) remains the same, and they’re still vegan.

Urban Decay Naked Reloaded Eyeshadow Palette (£38, urbandecay.co.uk) The classic Naked 1 palette is no more, but in its stead comes this updated version, offering 12 new neutral shades for any skin tone – from a cool peachy coral to a rose gold shimmer. There’s no brush – all the more room for powder.

Benefit Hoola Matte Bronzer (£26, benefitcosmetics.com) This time-honoured and trusted make-up stalwart has upped its game to suit more skin tones. Recently added are Caramel (medium-deep) and Toasted (deep) shades – both welcome additions to the Hoola offering.
