Behind the scenes at FIFA Best Player awards

Footballing stars from across the continent headed to the London Palladium on Monday to see Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo claim FIFA’s No 1 player award.

Ronaldo edged Barcelona’s Lionel Messi and Neymar, formerly of Barcelona and now at Paris Saint-Germain, to win the accolade.

The awards bash gave many of the game’s biggest names a chance to mingle behind the scenes without the attention of thousands of fans and hundreds of cameras.

Tottenham forward Harry Kane was one of the notable names quick to congratulate Ronaldo in person. He shared a snap on his Instagram with the Portugal international.

With 17 goals in 16 games for club and country so far this season, Kane has been producing form that Ronaldo himself would be pleased with.

The England striker has been repeatedly linked with a move to Madrid in the Spanish press and while Tottenham have no intention of selling their star man, Spurs fans will hope Ronaldo was too busy to try and convince him to move to Spain.

The 32-year-old was centre of attention on Monday night but found a quiet moment near one of the bars to read through some of the congratulatory messages he received on his phone.

He posed for a photo with Andres Iniesta and Messi, writing: ‘I am very lucky to have shared a dressing room with you two… my idols and also my friends.’
