A Belarusian actor charged over an alleged indecent act on the flight to Australia has been axed from the cast of an Adelaide Fringe Festival show.

Actor Aleh Sidorchyk, 61, appeared in the Adelaide Magistrates Court via video link from the City Watchhouse on Monday, charged with committing an indecent act towards another person on his Malaysian Airlines flight from Kuala Lumpur to Adelaide on Sunday.

He was released on bail but ordered to surrender his passport, attend Hindley St Police Station on Friday and not leave the state.

The court heard the matter is likely to be resolved at the next hearing on Monday after which Sidorchyk will be permitted to fly out of the country on Tuesday. 

Sidorchyk was to appear in the Fringe show Dogs of Europe but has been cut from the cast of the Belarus Free Theatre production, Festival chief executive Kath Mainland said.

‘Aleh Sidorchyk will no longer be appearing in Dogs of Europe and will be replaced by Ilya Yasinski and Igor Shugaleev,’ Ms Mainland told the Adelaide Advertiser.

‘The production will open on Thursday night and continue its run until Monday 6 March, as planned.’

Belarus Free Theatre is a 20-person troupe which operates in political exile from its homeland.
