Bella Hadid gives health update after jaw infection and details struggles with Lyme disease

Two weeks after celebrating five months of sobriety, Bella Hadid has revealed the extensive history of her health struggles with Lyme disease, the tick-borne illness she originally contracted back in 2012.

The 26-year-old IMG Model’s latest health scare came after undergoing emergency root canal surgery a year ago and developing a low-grade infection underneath the neighboring tooth, which she now plans on having extracted Monday.

Bella’s doctors prescribed her antibiotics and Motrin 800 for the jaw infection after she landed in Florida a month ago, and she shared a selfie of her skin ‘breaking out randomly, I get what feels like lesions.’

‘I look sick as a dog compared to what I look like now,’ Hadid – who boasts 66.5M TikTok/Instagram followers – explained via TikTok on Sunday.

‘Basically, the nerve pain from my jaw ended up going down my entire meridian of my body, and to the touch, everywhere all the way down my body through all my lymph nodes. This pain, man. Something real different. Real different.’

The half-Dutch, half-Palestinian beauty said most of her pictures/selfies look like [the selfie from Florida] ‘on a normal basis when I’m flaring up.’

‘You can only wonder why my face changes the way it doesn’t and this is why. End of story,’ Bella continued.

‘That’s why I hate looking in the mirror or taking pictures especially lately, truly wanting to throw up at the sight of myself constantly. Years and years of this. If I’m all dolled up maybe I’ll try for the girls, but man is it hard to do this as your profession while also feeling/looking sick like this.’

Hadid added: ‘And if you look back at work pictures from the past eight years you can tell the difference between me when my Lyme flares up and me when I’m healthy. She’s a different girl. I feel so bad for her my little body.’

The About You collaborator said she looks and feels like that picture ‘most days’ and apologized for ‘the way that I shot covers and campaigns in that state for month.’

‘This is me on a decent day by the way,’ Bella went on.

‘I would never be able to make one of these videos if I was at work having a flare up, or not feeling safe/calm in my environment as I am with my mom and horses the past four weeks. I tried my best so I could try to update you guys before the extraction.’

Hadid added: ‘Thank you for watching this and knowing a little more about me that is a huge part of my everyday life. It means more to me than you even know and I feel closer to you guys now. Love you all a lot a lot a lot. My angels.’

Before officially being diagnosed with Lyme at age 16 – the DC-born, Malibu-raised beauty was incorrectly diagnosed with ADHD at age 14 and began self-medicating at age 15 because she was ‘so depressed and sick’

Bella – who started homeschooling and stopped riding horses due to brain fog – said no one believed she was chronically ill except for her mother Yolanda Hadid, who was diagnosed with Lyme the same year in 2012.

The 59-year-old former Ford Model detailed her journey seeing ‘106 doctors’ and undergoing a Stem Cell transplant, Hyperbaric oxygen therapy, Chelation therapy, colon hydrotherapy, among other treatments in her 2017 book Believe Me.

‘After many misdiagnosis for two years, she started driving me anywhere and everywhere on our own, sick herself, to find the doctors that could heal me. I just turned 15/16 I think,’ Hadid recalled.

‘I was already doing IVs and random holistic treatments here and there, but just things that felt like a Band-Aid to me. My first Lyme treatment that I remember where the doctors actually could treat me and tell me what was wrong with me was in Reno at University of Nevada and a year or two later, my mom drove the both of us, sick herself, across the border to Tijuana, Mexico. To the kindest small town doctor.

‘After that, over the years, the flood gates opened and Lyme started to be more visible through blood and Kinesiology. My mom’s book actually talks about all of the treatments I did, and about what it looked like for her baby to be sick like her, it’s just a bit traumatizing for me to read now.’

Back in 2017, the Ramy guest star told InStyle that that she took ’30 pills’ and self-administered ‘two shots a day in the keester’ to properly function with Lyme disease.
