Ben Affleck’s history of tattoo disasters: How his ‘mid life crisis’ phoenix ink offended his ex

Ben Affleck added the latest tattoo to his person Tuesday as he and his wife Jennifer Lopez got tattoos that coordinate with one another. 

Affleck, 50, and Lopez, 53, were seen on Instagram celebrating their first Valentine’s Day since their wedding last summer with matching ink.

The Air star and director had a pair of overlapping arrows under his armpit area with the letters J and B between them, while Lopez was inked on her left side with an infinity sign with an arrow on it that read the words ‘Jennifer’ and ‘Ben.’

The commemorative tattoos were the latest Affleck has gotten, some of which made headlines in the past.

Affleck has an enormous tattoo of a phoenix on his back, which was initially seen in 2015 prior to photographers getting full snaps of it in 2018.  

The tattoo of the phoenix appeared to rankle his ex-wife Jennifer Garner, who told Vanity Fair in 2016 of the ink, ‘You know what we would say in my hometown about that? “Bless his heart.” 

Garner added, ‘A phoenix rising from the ashes. Am I the ashes in this scenario? I take umbrage. I refuse to be the ashes.’

Affleck in 2019 said on Ellen that the tattoo had a ‘meaningful’ message behind it.

‘It represents something really important to me … I like it,’ Affleck said. ‘It’s not something that I sort of kept private.’
