Ben Affleck’s relation to Secret Lives of Mormon Wives star Zac Affleck has been called into question.
The 52-year-old filmmaker — who is going through a divorce from Jennifer Lopez — and his brother Casey Affleck, 49, were believed to be second cousins with the Hulu star.
But now, a source has told People that there is no blood relation as fans online have taken a closer look at the relationship.
Zac’s wife Jen first claimed the connection in a TikTok shared in September 2022, following Ben and JLo’s Las Vegas nuptials.
‘When you thought you were going to be the next JLO. But instead … she stole your name & you’re busting it down to Ms. Rachel,’ she wrote in the caption at the time.

She also played up the family link in another TikTok post shared earlier this month, playfully captioning the clip: ‘The new Jenny from the block.’
A source close to the situation said the alleged family tie ‘is absolutely not true.’
‘There’s no relationship. I just don’t think that’s very fair about that either,’ the person shared with PEOPLE.
The insider explained, ‘So Zac Affleck is [Jen’s] husband. [His father] is David Affleck. Zac’s grandfather is Gordon Affleck. Zac’s great-grandparents — which would [establish] second cousins — his name is Alan Burt Affleck.
‘Then Ben’s dad is Tim Affleck. His grandfather is Myron Junior. His great-grandparent is Myron Senior. No, Alan Burt and Myron Senior aren’t brothers or anything.’
Furthermore, Zac’s family reportedly has ties back to England, while Ben and Casey Affleck’s relatives are from Scotland.
The source speculated that details about the alleged family connection haven’t come out sooner because Zac and Jen might be ‘overwhelmed’ by their quick rise to fame.

Days after her ‘Jenny from the block’ social media post, Jennifer Lynn Affleck admitted that she’s never met the Gone Girl star.
‘Zac’s dad has [met Ben], when he was very little,’ Jennifer told PEOPLE.
She added, ‘I’m hoping to meet him one day too!’
