Ben Lee reveals why his wife Ione Skye still shares throwback photos from her iconic ’80s film Say Anything – as the pair discuss their 13-year marriage

Australian musician Ben Lee and his American actress wife Ione Skye have been married for 13 years. 

And in this week’s issue of Stellar Magazine, the pair discuss their laid-back marriage and rock ‘n’ roll lifestyle.   

Ione, 51, says she and Ben, 43, both being creative souls, love to entertain and have people over.

‘I guess they say you marry one of your parents. My mum liked to have fun, and it wasn’t like in a heavy rock ‘n’ roll way,’ she tells the publication.

‘She was still very reliable, but she just loved community and [having] people over. She [hosted] a friendly poker game and she just liked cooking and people around. We usually have jams on a Friday night – just a sense of what it was like in our 20s. We’re older now, but [we] like that kind of vibe’.  

Elsewhere in the interview, Ben discussed the iconic 1989 film, Say Anything, which made Ione a pin up girl for scores of fans in the 1990s.

‘I’m not nostalgic. I’ve learnt to appreciate my past in as much as other people appreciate it. I’m always thinking about today and tomorrow,’ he said. 

‘Ione, every now and then, she’ll post a picture from Say Anything… It’s not like she desperately feels the need, but she does it because it makes people feel good’.

Say Anything is a romantic drama directed by Cameron Crowe and co-starring John Cusack, whose character Lloyd Dobler famously held a boombox above his head to woo his love interest Diane Court, played by Ione, in one memorable scene that has become a part of pop culture history.

Quirky couple Ben and Ione married in December 2008, in a Hindu wedding ceremony in India. 

They have one child together, daughter Goldie Priya Lee, 12. 

Ben, an indie musician best known for his hits Catch My Disease and We’re All in This Together, dated American actress Claire Danes, 43, between 1999 and 2003.
