Bendigo: Fears Covid spreading to regional Victoria as hairdresser outside of Melbourne is exposed

Fears Covid has spread to regional Victoria as hairdresser 160km outside of Melbourne is exposed to the virus

An urgent coronavirus alert has been issued for a regional hairdresser – sparking fears the deadly virus may have spread out of Melbourne and into wider Victoria.

Anyone who was at the Bendigo Hairfolk hair salon in Bendigo, 160km north of Melbourne, on May 22 between 9.40am and 10.10am must get tested and isolate until they receive a negative result.

The hairdresser is about a two-hour drive from Melbourne and is one of 43 venues on the Victorian Department of Health’s exposure list – up from 10 on Tuesday.

Another regional alert has been issued for the Axedale Tavern in Axedale, about 20km east of Bendigo.

A positive case was at a lunchtime function at the cafe on 105 High Street on Sunday between 11.45am and 1.30pm.

Diners who were at the tavern at the same time as the positive case must get tested immediately and quarantine for 14 days.
