As Valentines Day approaches, couples across Australia are preparing for a romantic night with their loved one. 

And global sexual happiness retailer, Lovehoney, has revealed couples in Berri, South Australia, spend more on one another on Valentine’s Day than anywhere else in the country. 

Sales data and insights were used to determine which towns were the most ‘romantic’ based on the number of sex toys and lingerie purchased in the lead up to February 14th.

Locations in Queensland, Western Australia and Tasmania scored in the national top ten but some major cities including Sydney failed to make the list. 

Berri ranked first place after Lovehoney found a 300 per cent increase in the number of individuals purchasing sex toys ahead of Valentines Day.

2. Mareeba – QLD

3. Bentley – WA

4. Brisbane – QLD

5. Grafton – NSW

6. Townsville – QLD

7. Hobart – TAS

8. Gold Coast – QLD

9. Perth – WA

10. Lane Cove – NSW

A spokesperson said: ‘Couples in the town of Berri are the most romantic in Australia, spending more on each other than anywhere else in the build-up to Valentine’s Day.’

‘Couples in Berri clearly know that the key to sexual happiness is to be bold and adventurous…and instead of giving their partner the same old gift, are more likely to give them something that’s sure to spice things up!’

It was followed by several Queensland towns and cities including Mareeba, Brisbane, Townsville and the Gold Coast.

Grafton and Lane Cove in New South Wales as well as Perth and Bentley in Western Australia and  Hobart in Tasmania, also made the top ten. 

Meanwhile, Adelaide cemented itself at number 13 with Canberra closely behind in 14th place.    

Hoppers Crossing in Victoria was crowned the least romantic place in the country.

It was followed by Mildura, Victoria, Morayfield, Queensland, West End, Queensland and Subury, Victoria.
