A girlfriend has pointed out her fiancé’s hysterical ‘beige flag’ following a trip to Australia.
Renae Cheng and her partner Yap Heng Soon, from Singapore, have been dating for two years and he instantly became obsessed with the tradesman uniform aesthetic after visiting Down Under.
‘He went to Australia for the first time last year and fell in love with the neon orange tradie shirt when he saw it at Kmart,’ Renae wrote in a TikTok video.
‘He started wearing it on the trip itself even though it was a short sleeve shirt and it was wintertime.’
The tradie attire is usually an orange or yellow shirt with black pants and matching boots worn on the worksite, but not in day-to-day life.
This ‘beige flag’ – something that is neither good nor bad – caught the attention of thousands who dubbed the habit as ‘strange but cute’.
Renae Cheng noticed her fiancé Yap Heng Soon’s ‘beige flag’ – something that’s neither good nor bad – after a trip to Australia
Renae claims he ‘fell in love’ with fluorescent tradie uniforms which he spotted at Kmart. ‘He started wearing it on the trip itself even though it was a short sleeve shirt and it was wintertime,’ she said
The term ‘beige flag’ sits between a ‘red flag’ – signalling a problem – and a a ‘green flag’ – signalling something good.
While at the airport wearing his orange shirt, a staff member said ‘nice fashion’ and Renae’s finance ‘giggled shyly’ in response but ‘deep down he was elated’.
Even after arriving back home, Yap Heng continued to wear the orange shirt while out and about.
‘We went back to Australia again this year and he was surrounded by his favourites,’ she continued and shared an image of Yap Heng smiling in a tradie uniform shop.
While the uniform store may seem mundane to most customers, it’s ‘paradise’ for Renae’s partner.
‘In conclusion, get you a man who loves you the way my fiancé loves tradie uniforms,’ Renae said.

Heng’s appreciation for workwear quickly caught the attention of hundreds on TikTok, and some went as far as to call him an ‘honorary Aussie.’
‘I’m crying! That’s so cute he’s just a lil tradie-core kinda guy,’ one commented.
‘As an Aussie, seeing this is soooo cute,’ another said, a third added: ‘Protect him at all costs.’
Another admitted her fiancé’s tradie obsession is ‘strange but cute’.
‘Ummm he is now an honorary Aussie. G’day mate,’ one said.
Last month Adelaide girlfriend Cassandra called out her boyfriend Rocky for his ‘beige flag’.
Cassandra also previously pointed out her boyfriend’s ‘beige flag’. She claims he doesn’t put his phone on do not disturb at night out of fear he’ll miss the morning alarm
Cassandra and her boyfriend Rocky, from Adelaide, have been dating since they were 14
She claims he doesn’t put his phone on ‘do not disturb’ at night out of fear he’ll miss his alarm in the morning.
This means all through the night the phone would buzz and light up with each notification received.
‘My partner’s beige flag is that he doesn’t put his phone on silent mode throughout the night because he’s scared it means his morning alarm won’t go off,’ text read covering the TikTok video.
‘No matter how many times I tell him, or secretly do it and it still goes off – he just won’t risk it and I have to be consistently woken up all night by all his notifications.’
Cassandra’s video has since gone viral exceeding more than 6.5million views, but opinions were divided.
‘This is my beige flag, I also put two extra alarms in case the first one doesn’t go off,’ one wrote.
‘If it’s silenced it will silence the alarm bro, we’re all with you,’ another added.
‘Does he not know he can set an alarm in like two minutes when he’s already awake to test it out?’ a third pointed out.
