Bexley crash: Emergency response as truck driver becomes trapped after ploughing into a shop front- sparking traffic chaos

Emergency crews are working to free a truck driver who became trapped after crashing into a shop front.

The driver swerved into a shop on Mimosa Street in Bexley, in Sydney’s south, causing major structural damage on Wednesday morning. 

Part of the roof collapsed and bricks came loose, falling onto the windscreen of the truck. 

It is believed that the man driving the truck lost control after suffering a medical episode behind the wheel.

Dozens of first responders have been working for more than an hour to free the man.

The extent of his injuries are still unknown, but it’s believed he is conscious and breathing. 

Firefighters, ambulance staff and police are at the scene.

It’s believed that at least two people have been evacuated from the home.

Crews are scrambling to fix fallen power lines. 

Forest Road is closed in both directions.

Eastbound motorists are being diverted to St Georges Road and westbound via Mimosa Street.
