The video outtakes were from a 2003 tribute video to Vandross, which also featured Stevie Wonder, Monica, Ruben Studdard, Johnny Gill, Nona Gaye, Garcelle Beauvais, and Holly Robinson Peete, among others.

The video was organized by director Diane Martel, MTV reported in July of 2003.

Peete wrote in response to Tina’s Instagram post, ‘Oh my God I was in that video. To this day I still can’t watch it without crying at the images of my father … so sad – Luther was so ill during this time.’

Late R&B icon Luther Vandross suffered a stroke in April of 2003 and fell into a coma for two months; he tragically died at 54 from a heart attack in July of 2005.

Beyonce, who had collaborated with on the 2003 song The Closer I Get to You, issued a statement at the time about her appearance in the video.

‘I’m a part of this project because I got the wonderful opportunity to work with Luther,’ she said. ‘When I was in the studio with him, I fell in love. He is such a special person, I just wanted to be here for him.’

Vandross, prior to falling ill, said in a statement to J Records that the 2003 song was based on his experiences with his family.

‘Recording that song was very emotional for me and it is based on my own experience,’ the late singer said. ‘It’s my mother and my father dancing to some Baby Washington songs with me right there … and the memory of that moment has hovered around me throughout my life ever since.’

Tina, who parted ways with Mathew Knowles in 2011 after 31 years of marriage, wed Poltergeist actor Richard Lawson, 74, in 2015.
