BGT’s Harry Churchill, 11, surprised by Queen guitarist and idol Sir Brian May with offer to duet

He may have missed out on a place in Britain’s Got Talent’s grand final, but his career is just beginning. 

And 11-year-old guitarist Harry Churchill was surprised with an incredible to offer to perform at London’s Palladium by his idol Sir Brian May, 75, this week. 

The youngster was left speechless after he found himself on a zoom call with the iconic Queen star, who praised the teen’s musical talents.

After waiting to speak with his agent, Sir Brian popped up on screen saying: ‘Right, Harry. The bad news is I’m not your agent,’ leaving the young rocker spluttering: ‘Oh my god’.

Sir Brian continued: ‘I just wanted to talk to you really. I was thinking I wonder what we could do, because the show is one thing, but it’s not all of what’s out there. And I had this crazy idea.’

The Bohemian Rhapsody hitmaker explained he was planning a tribute show to his own hero, James Burton, a guitarist who was ‘one of the first people to actually bend strings like we do’.

Adding: ‘So he’s an influence on all of us.’

After inviting Harry to the event, Sir Brian then offered the teen the opportunity to perform in front of James Burton, 83, who will be present at the event.

Saying: ‘I thought you might like to come, and I also thought you might like to play,’ he said.

In total shock Harry was overjoyed to be given the opportunity with the pair then sharing a virtual high-five. 

The young musician, from Devon, auditioned for the ITV talent show with a medley  during which he played the guitar behind his back and catching the attention of Sir Brian.

His semi-final performance saw him perform a Back To The Future set, dressed as Marty McFly from the movie, however missed out on a spot on Sunday’s grand finale.

The winner of this year’s Britain’s Got Talent will be announced at the end of Sunday’s show, with the champion winning £250,000 and the opportunity to perform during the Royal Variety Performance later this year.

The Britain’s Got Talent final airs on Sunday at 7:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
