Biden asks if Trump is ‘cognitively aware’ attacking hims for Russian bounties and COVID response

Joe Biden questioned the cognitive ability of President Trump as he went after him for his handling of the coronavirus crisis and the Russian bounty scandal.

Biden, who gave remarks and then took questions at a high school in Wilmington, Delaware, said it was a ‘dereliction of duty’ for not giving a stern warning to ‘Vladimir, buddy,’ as soon as he was told intelligence said Russia was offering the Taliban bounties for American soldiers.

‘This president is talking about cognitive capability, he isn’t even cognitively aware of what’s going on,’ Biden told reporters during the Q&A. ‘He either reads and-or gets briefed on important issues and he forgets it, or he doesn’t think it’s necessary that he need to know it.’

Biden’s main remarks focused on Trump’s handling of the coronavirus crisis, as he demanded that the president fix shortages in personal protective equipment for healthcare workers ‘before you tee off another round of golf.’

‘It seems like our wartime president has surrendered – wave the white flag and left the battlefield,’ Biden said.

will accuse President Trump of surrendering to the coronavirus in a Tuesday afternoon speech delivered from a high school in the former vice president’s adopted hometown of Wilmington, Delaware.

Bloomberg News obtained early excerpts of Biden’s remarks and reported that he’ll go after Trump for ‘golfing, holding rallies & telling the country he’s the victim.’

Biden slapped Trump for ‘his historic mismanagement of the biggest public health crisis in 100 years’ that is ‘continuing to cost Americans lives and wreck our economy.’

Biden said that the American people didn’t make ‘enormous  sacrifices over the past four months’ so Trump could waste time ‘with late night rantings and tweets.’

‘They didn’t make these sacrifices so you could ignore the science and turn responsible steps like wearing a mask into a political statement,’ Biden said. ‘And they certainly didn’t do it so you could wash your hands and walk away.’

The Biden campaign said Tuesday that the former vice president would start tackling the crisis minutes after the November election is called.

‘Minutes after he is declared the winner of the election, Biden will make one of his first calls to Dr. Tony Fauci and ask him to extend his unprecedented record of service to six Presidents by serving one more,’ a campaign memo said. ‘Dr. Fauci will have full access to the Oval Office and an uncensored platform to speak directly to the American people – whether delivering good news or bad.’

The campaign unveiled an updated COVID-19 plan, which the presumptive Democratic nominee will speak about.

‘Once again – I encourage him to adopt this plan in its entirety. This is too important for politics,’ Biden will say.

The Tuesday speech will mark the second time in a week that the former vice president has emerged from his basement rec room – where he’s been holding Zoom fundraisers and campaign events – to pan Trump’s coronavirus crisis response and his overall behavior.

On Thursday, Biden had traveled to Lancaster, Pennsylvania for a healthcare-themed campaign stop.

The trip was made in expectation that the Trump administration would file a brief supporting Texas and other states in a Supreme Court battle that could see Obamacare overturned.

The administration filed the brief late Thursday night.

In Lancaster, Biden met with supporters who benefited from Obamacare, more properly known as the Affordable Care Act.

He talked about how the law made it so insurance companies couldn’t discriminate against people with pre-existing conditions and if the law was struck down insurers could carry out that practice again.

And in the future, Biden theorized, that could extend to Americans who survived COVID-19.

‘Some survivors will experience lasting health impacts – like lung scarring and heart damage,’ Biden said. ‘If Donald Trump prevails in court, insurers would be allowed to strip away coverage or jack up premiums – simply because of their battle with the coronavirus.’

‘They would live their lives caught in a vise between Donald Trump’s twin legacies: his failure to protect the American people from the coronavirus, and his heartless crusade to take health care protections away from American families,’ Biden added.

Like he’s expected to do so Tuesday, Biden lashed out at the president’s behavior in Lancaster as well.

‘It’s like a child who can’t believe this has happened to him. All his whining and self-pity. This pandemic didn’t happen to him, it happened to all of us,’ Biden said. ‘His job isn’t to whine about it, his job is to do something about it, to lead.’

As coronavirus cases grew around the U.S., President Trump spent Saturday and Sunday at his Sterling, Virginia golf club after cancelling a planned trip to his Bedminster, New Jersey golf facility.
