Big Brother star-turned-auctioneer Daniel Hayes fails to sell three-bedroom Geelong home in need of $100,000 in renovations after hoping to fetch up to $2.4m for it

Big Brother Australia star-turned-auctioneer Daniel Hayes failed to sell a partially renovated three-bedroom, two-bathroom property in Geelong on Saturday.

The real estate agent, 50, attempted to auction off the property for between $2.2m – $2.4million, but potential buyers decided to hold off until renovations were complete.

‘This is as blue chip as it gets for Newtown overlooking probably one of Australia’s best schools,’ Hayes told the crowd on auction day.

Hayes was open and upfront about the extent of work the house needed.

‘There’s three key components that need to be finished. The internal bathroom needs to be completed, a few doors and maybe some mirrors that completes the inside,’ he said.

The former reality star told the crowd the expected cost of the renovation work would likely be between $100,000 – $200,000.

He said once the necessary renovations were completed the property would be a sight to behold, however the crowd was silent and no bids were offered.

The home was last sold in May 2020 for $985,000, and Hayes said on the day the reserve price was great value because it was ‘surrounded by homes worth in excess of $3 million and the reserve is nothing like that’.

Hayes rose to fame on the 2021 season of Big Brother Australia, finishing fifth on the reality show.

During his time on the series, he didn’t hold back from flaunting his luxurious life.

In March 2022, he revealed the heavy price his profitable real estate career came and how making deals to secure wealth meant he was rarely home with his wife and children.

Speaking to The Courier Mail, Hayes said that his son Harry forced him to confront the choices he was making.

‘My wife and I were fighting again and he said: ‘Dad, isn’t it enough?’,’ Hayes recalled.

Hayes explained his success cost him two marriages.

‘Some people just make you think that real estate is life, it’s a drug, doing a deal selling at an auction, you’re a God. Unfortunately ego has an unquenchable thirst. It’ll take everything from you,’ he added.
