The 25-year-old started golfing from a young age and began playing competitively at the age of eight before embracing success in her teenage years. She helped guide the Notre Dame High School girls golf team to three championships while playing with a plus-two handicap.

She also impressively shot in the 70s, and her lowest 18-hole score in a tournament was a 69, while in high school.

Newton was then on the verge of playing golf at a collegiate level but opted against representing the University of Southern California and chose to go after a career in acting.

In 2012, it was planned that she would take part in the US Women’s Open in North Carolina, but she had to withdraw from the sectional qualifier after getting the lead acting role in Paranormal Activity 4.
