Bindi Irwin shares the sweet connection between her late father Steve and daughter Grace: ‘The legacy continues’

Bindi Irwin has shared the touching connection her late father Steve Irwin shares with her daughter Grace.

Taking to Instagram on Thursday, the 25-year-old wildlife warrior revealed that both her dad and daughter share a love for a particular species of turtles that was named after the family.

‘My dad discovered a new species of turtle 40 years ago…’ she wrote over an image of Steve gently holding a turtle.

‘Never knowing they would be his granddaughter’s favourite animal… Today, we protect this incredibly vulnerable species with an endangered species program.’

Bindi added: ‘Elseya Irwini or Irwin’s turtle is in good hands. You’d be so proud of your granddaughter, Dad. We miss you.’

‘There’s a video of Steve in tears talking about his legacy and how proud he’d be to step away when he has kids and pass on his love of animals. Mission accomplished,’ one user wrote.

‘That’s him letting you know he’s still around by coming through traits within your daughter,’ added another. ‘I’ve experienced the same with my daughter for my grandmother.’

Meanwhile, Bindi’s mother Terri added: ‘It’s wonderful to see Steve’s mission and message live on.’

The Irwin family have been famous for their wholesome image ever since the late Steve hit the scene in the ’90s.

Steve died on September 4, 2006, at the age of 44 after being pierced in the chest by a stingray while filming a documentary on the Great Barrier Reef.

Following his death, Steve’s family, including his daughter Bindi, 25, widow Terri, 59, son Robert, 19, and son-in-law Chandler Powell, 27, have continued his conservation work at Australia Zoo.

It was Steve’s father, Bob, 83, who built the iconic Queensland zoo from the ground up in 1970 and passed it on to his late son and his wife Terri in 1992.

In his lifetime, Steve promoted wildlife conservation with his own hit TV show, the Crocodile Hunter.

And his family have carried on his legacy with their own blockbuster wildlife reality series Crikey! It’s the Irwins, which debuted in 2018 and can still be seen on the Animal Planet network.
