An eight-year-old boy killed instantly in a motorway horror crash dreamed of becoming a doctor and has been described as ‘the most perfect son in every way’.

Dev Naran was named as the victim of the smash, which saw a lorry plough into a red Toyota Yaris on the M6 in Birmingham on Thursday evening.

His devastated parents have already spoken of their loss, describing him as a ‘kind and compassionate angel’

They said the Leicester boy excelled at school and devoted time to caring for his younger brother, who suffered brain damage at birth.

They said: ‘He excelled at school and wanted to become a doctor. He looked after his brother Neel, who suffered brain damage at birth.

‘He was a big sports fan and loved Leicester City. Dev was the most perfect son in every way.’

The victim was a passenger in a red Toyota Yaris, which is believed to have stopped on the hard shoulder between junctions 6 and 5 southbound.

A man and a woman who were inside the car were taken to hospital with serious injuries where they both remain in a stable condition. It has not yet been disclosed if they are family members.

A man in his sixties suffered a fractured shoulder and a woman in her twenties received treatment for a leg injury at Heartlands Hospital in Birmingham.

Sergeant Alan Wood, of the force’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: ‘Our thoughts are with Dev’s family who have asked for privacy at this very difficult time.

‘I would urge anyone who witnessed the crash, in particular anyone with dash cam footage to get in touch.’

A 62-year-old lorry driver from Hampshire, who was uninjured, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and later released pending further investigation.

West Midlands Ambulance Service said they sent two ambulances, a paramedic officer and a MERIT trauma doctor to the scene.

A spokesman for the service said: ‘Crews arrived to find three patients, all of whom had been travelling in the car.

‘The boy was found to be in cardiac arrest and ambulance staff immediately began CPR.

‘Unfortunately, it quickly became apparent nothing could be done to save him and he was confirmed dead at the scene.

‘A man, believed to be in his 60s, was treated for a suspected fractured shoulder and a woman, believed to be in her 20s, was treated for a leg injury.

‘They were both taken to Heartlands Hospital in the same ambulance.

‘The lorry driver, a man, was uninjured in the incident.’
