Bizarre gumshield-like device lets you control computers using your TONGUE – and it even works on sex toys

From chewing and swallowing food to talking, our tongues are essential for a range of important functions.

Now, you can use your tongue for a new function – controlling computers.

A bizarre gumshield-like device has been unveiled at the CES technology conference in Las Vegas, which allows you to control devices purely though the movement of your tongue.

While this includes basic computers, Augmental, the company behind it, has already synced the device up to a sex toy.

Krystina Jackson, a self-proclaimed ‘sex enthusiast’ who has been using the device with her vibrator, said: ‘Oh my goodness, this is how it should be. With this new device, everything is ramped up.’

The MouthPad device was first unveiled last year, but has been showcased at CES this week.

Resembling a retainer, the device is worn in the mouth, and can be synced up via Bluetooth to a range of devices, including computers, smartphones, and sex toys.

Once a device is connected, you can then control it with your tongue.

The MouthPad converts the tongue position and pressure into cursor actions, by processing signals through a machine-learning algorithm inside its processor.

The commands are sent via Bluetooth to the connected device, and translated into cursor movements and clicks.

In a new video posted to its X (formerly Twitter) account, an Augmental employe can be seen navigating Google Maps on his phone, using only subtle tongue movements.

‘We’re not just reinventing the computer mouse — we’re reframing the human experience,’ Augmental said.

‘From gamers performing multi-dimensional moves to artists crafting digital masterpieces, the potential is limitless.’

While the MouthPad was originally designed for people with quadriplegia and limited hand control, Augmental says that its ‘reach extends beyond these cases’.

‘The goal is to scale up the MouthPad so that it can be used by the broadest possible audience, allowing people to carry out everyday tasks hands-free and enjoy digital control with greater ease and independence,’ it added.

While the device currently has a waitlist, Krystina Jackson, Ms Wheelchair California, was one of the early testers, and described the device as ‘very easy to use.’

‘I’m a sex enthusiast,’ she said. ‘So I was really interested in how Augmental was going to use the MouthPad to connect with my vibrator.

‘And with this new device, everything is ramped up. Eventually, everyone will be using it.’

Pricing remains unclear, although MailOnline has contacted Augmental for clarification.
