Bizarre moment Karl Stefanovic butchers NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal’s name during interview with Scottie Pippen – and Sarah Abo’s priceless reaction

Karl Stefanovic made an awkward gaffe on the Today show on Tuesday morning when he mispronounced NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal’s name.

The blunder earned a priceless reaction from co-host Sarah Abo and guest, six-time NBA championship winner, Scottie Pippen.

Going heavy on his Aussie accent, the TV host pronounced Shaquille’s name ‘Shark’ instead of ‘Shaq’ before adding an extra ‘o’ at the end.

‘We’ve had [Shark-quille O’Neal-oh] out here as well,’ Karl said, as Sarah chuckled and gave him a confused side-eye.

The camera then cut to Scottie, 58, who appeared unimpressed with the wild mispronunciation.

It comes just one day after Karl and Sarah’s awkward interview with American singer Sabrina Carpenter.

On Monday morning, the musical artist struggled to see her excited fans as she was forced to do an interview for in the glaring morning sun.

The 25-year-old, who was Taylor Swift’s support act on the Aussie legs of her Eras tour, appeared live on Nine’s Today show alongside hosts Karl and Sarah.

She was tasked with answering eager fans’ questions and the Q&A session took place outdoors to make room for the huge crowds waiting to see the pop star.

However, a blinded Sabrina struggled to even see the crowd in the glaring sunshine.

While the crowds of fans were mostly in the shade, Sabrina had to stand on a stage alongside Karl, 49, and Sarah, which left the songstress exposed to the elements.

Sabrina couldn’t help but comment on the intense sunshine as she had to shield her eyes to try and see the eager fans who were asking questions about her stay in Australia and the Eras tour.

Upon taking to the stage, Sabrina said: ‘Your sun is so bright!’

At the end of the Q&A, Sabrina also seemed unimpressed with the set-up as she thanked fans for waking up early for the 8.30am interview and complained again about the sun.

She told her fans: ‘We’re all here, and the sun is beating on us really hard!’
