Black cab driver films Uber driver ASLEEP at green light

A furious black cab driver has told how he spotted an Uber driver fast asleep at a green light in west London.

Shocking footage shows a man dozing off in a silver Volkswagen with the engine still running at traffic lights in Westbourne Grove, Notting Hill.

In the clip, which was posted on Facebook on Friday night, a black cab driver explains that he is driving up to the spot where he saw an Uber driver fast asleep moments earlier.

‘We were coming down this way from Westbourne Grove to Chepstow Road and at the traffic light was an Uber driver sleeping, waiting for the traffic lights,’ he says, turning into the road.

Sure enough, the driver still appears to be fast asleep, despite the fact the light has turned green.

‘He’s still here can you believe it?’ he exclaims.

‘This is great. This is great news for Uber,’ he jokes.

He then pulls up on the side of the road, walks over to the vehicle and looks inside.

‘Unfit for work,’ he says. ‘And he’s still logged onto the system.’

Knocking on the window, he tells the driver: ‘You’re sleeping at the traffic lights mate!’

The sleeping man immediately springs into action.

The video could not have come at a worse time for Uber, which faces a ban in London.

Transport for London (TfL) refused to renew the firm’s licence last month on the grounds of ‘public safety and security implications’.

Uber has said it will launch an appeal against the decision. It can continue to operate during that process.

Some 40,000 Uber drivers currently operate in London, claiming 3.5million people use the app across the capital.

A spokesman for Uber said: ‘We’re aware of this video and are investigating if it involves a licensed driver using our app.’
