Black ice brings Minnesota freeway to a standstill and backs up traffic for miles as state is blasted by Winter Storm Gage

Minnesota roads were at a standstill on Saturday thanks to black ice that made it impossible for vehicles to even exit off the freeway. 

A camerawoman shared that she was getting a ride in a Lyft to the Minneapolis−Saint Paul International Airport to catch a flight to Florida when they noticed ‘a semi was jack knifed up ahead’ on MN-62.

The camerawoman added that the driver decided to exit the freeway as they ‘became treacherous’ and were ‘literal ice rinks within moments.’

‘We didn’t get very far up the exit ramp nor did anyone else,’ she added.

The camerawoman then pans to the traffic behind their vehicle, showing a packed freeway and traffic that is at a standstill.

According to the camerawoman, their were many accidents that took place on the freeway.

‘We were stranded for a total of 5 hours,’ the woman added. ‘After 2 hours the rain stopped, skies lightened, and no cars could move and the video was taken.’ 

It is unknown whether the woman and her friend caught their flight.

‘Happy vacation to us,’ the woman declares as the clip comes to a close.
