Blake Harrison films drama A Very English Scandal

The BBC are working on a new adaptation of one of the most shocking stories in politics.

And Blake Harrison was spotted on the set of A Very English Scandal in Hertfordshire on Thursday, rocking a 70s inspired look including a retro moustache and brown leather jacket.

The Inbetweeners star was joined by Bond actor Ben Whishaw as they recreated the tale of MP Jeremy Thorpe standing trial over an attempted hit on his lover Norman Scott.

Blake, who is famed for playing lovable yet dimwitted Neil, looked poles apart from his Inbetweeners alter-ego in his vintage costume as he portrayed the disgraced MP.

He sported tweed trousers and a high-necked red jumper underneath his jacket, while Ben donned a leather bomber and denim flares, complete with shaggy hairdo.

Blake and Ben – who is playing Thorpe’s lover Norman – were seen driving off in a battered old Ford Cortina alongside a giant Great Dane.

The pooch is believed to be portraying Norman’s dog Rinka, who was shot by a would-be assassin who allegedly attempted to kill Norman.

The three-part series has been penned by Doctor Who showrunner and Queer as Folk creator Russell T. Davis, his first major work since he adapted A Midsummer Night’s Dream, which aired on the BBC in May last year.

A Very English Scandal is based on the novel of the same name by John Preston, which told the story of the 1970s Thorpe scandal, in which MP Jeremy Thorpe was tried and acquitted for the attempted assassination of his lover Norman in 1979.

The disgraced Liberal Party MP will be played by Hugh Grant in the series, and it will also star Torchwood star Eve Myles and BAFTA winner Jason Watkins.

Hugh is making a huge comeback to the small screen since he starred in comedy television series The Nanny in 1996.

The actor is best known for his stellar acting career in major Hollywood movies from Bridget Jones Diary to Notting Hill.

He first gained experience in television throughout the 1980s on shows including The Detective and Jenny’s War.
