Blondie’s Debbie Harry, 79, reveals why she doesn’t regret not having children

Blondie frontwoman Debbie Harry has revealed she has no regrets about not having kids.

The singer, 79 — who admitted she may check out the celebrity dating app Raya — also explained to The Times of London why she feels no remorse about not procreating.

‘I think I would have been a terrible parent,’ the veteran rocker told the publication, adding, ‘Although who knows?

‘I salute anyone who raises a family, but it doesn’t bother me for some reason. I guess there’s some missing element in my chromosomes,’ the Call Me singer said.

However, the artist was able to exhibit any maternal impulses she may have had with her godchildren, who are the daughters of her former partner Chris Stein, 75.

The Hairspray actress also dotes on her dogs, two Japanese Chins, whom she walks for exercise.

Harry, who was given up for adoption at age three months, knew early on she would not be able to live a traditional life.

‘I wanted to get out in the world,’ she said.

‘Maybe if I’d have been madly in love I would have settled down, but it wasn’t like that for me. I had ambition.’

In retrospect, she believes her parents would approve of the outcome, in spite of some public ups and downs.

‘They were proud I achieved something because they just thought I was a drug addict,’ she explained.

‘It turns out that I was a drug addict,’ said the singer who finally got clean in 2011, ‘but I also made music so it was OK.’

‘I think they’d be happy with the way my life turned out.’

As she looks forward to turning 80, the Heart of Glass artist is learning about acceptance.

As she approaches 80, Harry is learning about acceptance. 'I don¿t really want the same kind of life I did when I was younger. I¿ve done that! That¿s the beauty of ageing ¿ you know what it¿s about. You have it in your heart and soul and your memory bank'  (Pictured in London In December 2024)

‘My mother used to say in her head she was 25 and I’m the same. But thinking about it all the time could be your downfall,’ she asserted.

‘That’s the beauty of ageing — you know what it’s about. You have it in your heart and soul and your memory bank … or does that sound like an excuse? Should I go out and party every night?’

The One Way or Another singer, who came up in the era of sex, drugs and rock and roll, has maintained her sobriety, but somethings never change.

‘I’m pretty clean,’ she said, ‘But I have a dirty mind.’
