Blood seeps onto the road from a Louisiana funeral home

  • Blood and  formaldehyde seeped into the street in Baton Rouge, Louisiana
  • The stream came from a storage tank than holds excess embalming fluids and lasted for about 20 minutes after a valve was blocked and started the leak
  • Blood did not make its way into the city sewer system since it happened on private property

Blood and embalming fluid leaked out from a storage tank at Louisiana funeral home on Thursday and drained onto a street.

The horrific sight of a stream of blood mixed with formaldehyde occurred outside Greenoaks Funeral Home in Baton Rouge.

The mixture flowed from the storage tank that keeps excess embalming fluid behind the building. A blockage in a valve caused the leak which lasted for 20 minutes.

The street of blood was caused by a stoppage in a valve connected to the embalming fluid tank behind the funeral home

Officials told KATC  the blood did not make its way to the city sewer system since it happened on private property.

The funeral home, which is under new management, did not have a permit with the Department of Environmental Services. It is not clear if there will be repercussions.

The blood has been cleaned up from the street.
