Bluey party: No-one shows up to US child’s fifth birthday party

Devastating moment mum invites 12 kids to son’s fifth birthday party but no-one shows up: ‘It was heartbreaking’

  • 12 friends from school were invited but no-one turned up

A mum has revealed the heartbreaking moment she realised no one was going to turn up to her son’s 5th birthday party.

Dorian planned a fun day out at Chuck E Cheese for her son Omari and invited two of his cousins and 12 kids from school along.

Leading up to the event the little boy was excited, but on the day the mother and her son were left in tears when none of his school mates turned up.

She said only one mum had bothered to message her to explain they couldn’t come.

The busy mum from Ohio spent around $367 USD / $550 AUD on a ‘mega bundle’ venue package that included goodie bags and two hours of play time, and had bought a Bluey cake.

Dorian told FEMAIL she realised no-one was going to show up ‘about’ an hour into the event.

‘It’s devastating and traumatic. When was his age my mum threw me a party every year and people came,’ she said.

‘It is hard because you need to be strong in front of your children. He is a really great kid and I just want him to be happy.’

Dorian said her son’s two cousins came, as did her mother.

So the huge bash ended up being a quiet family celebration.

‘He was alright though, I let him stay up past his bedtime, and he was on a sugar high from the cake,’ she said.

The mum said she only recently got back on her feet after some hard years, she was excited to throw her son a party he would always remember.

She went to the Bluey Mums Facebook page to vent and was blown away with people’s nice comments and thoughtful gestures.

After reading of the incident, several mums reached out and dropped off birthday presents for little Omari – one of which was a Bluey bus playset.

Other parents online were completely shocked by the actions of others.

‘Wtf is wrong with people!? Absolutely unacceptable! So sorry you had to deal with this,’ one wrote.

‘What type of parent does this? If I’ve been invited and said I’m going to a party, then I’m going. Especially a child’s party,’ another added.

A third said: ‘This is exactly why we stopped doing parties and we do family outings. All that money you spend on parties, you can make memories and do something fun they’ll enjoy for their birthday.’
