Body found in Melbourne home, neighbours report foul smell

A body has been discovered inside a Melbourne home after neighbours allegedly alerted the police to a foul smell coming from the property.

Witnesses said officers arrived at the two-storey brick home in Kensington on Wednesday around 5pm, according to the Herald Sun.

It is believed the unidentified body had been at the property for several days, but police are unsure if it is a male or female, according to 9News.

Neighbours told officers a couple in their 40s had lived at the home for years but believed they had moved out because no one had seen them in months. 

Witnesses said the home’s lawn is overgrown and the mailbox is overflowing.

It is understood rubbish has been strewn through the house, according to 9News.

About 10 were at the scene overnight, neighbours said. 

The investigation is ongoing.
