A young man has been killed after he was caught in a bloody brawl near a Brisbane train station.

The body of Lauie Michael Tagaloa, 24, was found at the Valley Metro food court above the Fortitude Valley train station at about 4am on Monday.

Three men who fled the scene were later found on platform four with a weapon and are now assisting police with their inquiries.

Queensland Police Inspector Sean Cryer said officers had been watching the Brisbane City Council CCTV system when they saw a fight break out between two large groups.

‘On closer examination they saw a male person lying on the ground and persons nearby had blood on them,’ he said.

Inspector Cryer said there was a ‘large number of persons involved’ in the man’s death.

Paramedics performed CPR on Mr Tagaloa but he was unable to be saved.

A friend of the victim told the Courier Mail he was a ‘good bloke’ who ‘always stuck up for himself and his mates’.

It’s understood the 24-year-old was stabbed.

Friends of the victim had tried to revive him after the attack.

One man believed to be the victim’s father was at the scene before he was escorted away, the publication reported.

Train services have not been affected by the incident while a swarm of police officers remain at the scene. 

Police have cordoned off the Valley Metro shopping mall with residents told to use the back entrance.

Investigations are continuing.
