Bolton 1-2 Luton Town: Premier League side avoid potential slip-up in FA Cup Third round clash as Tahith Chong and Chiedozie Ogbene strike for the Hatters

  • Luton Town secured a 2-1 victory over Bolton Wanderers on Tuesday night
  • Chong and Ogbene struck either side of half-time for the visitors in the tie
  • Fair play to Reading fans. I wouldn’t normally say this about a pitch invasion, but sometimes you have to stand up for what you believe in – It’s All Kicking Off

Luton can look forward to their warm weather break in Dubai after overcoming an early scare in snowy Lancashire against League One Bolton.

After Northern Ireland international Dion Charles put the home side ahead after 11 minutes, Tahith Chong levelled quickly before Chiedozie Ogbene nabbed the winner in the second half.

It was reward for Hatters boss Rob Edwards fielding a strong line-up including star man Ross Barkley and they now face a trip to Everton or Crystal Palace in the next round.

Bolton honoured fan Ian Purslow before kick-off following his tragic death collapsing at their game against Cheltenham on Saturday.

Both sides then provided an entertaining cup tie with the underdogs striking first when Victor Adeboyejo crossed for Charles’ 17th goal of the season.

Luton took only four minutes to equalise. Jordan Clark teed up Chong and his shot arrowed into the bottom corner between the legs of defender Will Forrester.

An audacious attempt by Adeboyejo from halfway nearly caught out Tim Krul but Rob Edwards saw his visitors push forward again after two half-time changes.

Clark hit the post and then skipper Carlton Morris turned provider after 57 minutes, crossing low from the left for Republic of Ireland winger Ogbene to tap in from close range.

Wanderers fans were incensed when Charles was denied an equaliser by the assistant’s flag but the visitors are still dreaming of reaching their first FA Cup final since 1959.
