Bolton Wanderers’ footballer Gary Madine faces disciplinary action from his club after being arrested over an alleged pub brawl.
The striker was reportedly involved in an altercation at a pub near to where he grew up in Birtley, Tyne & Wear, on Friday.
Club officials at Bolton Wanderers today confirmed they were aware of the matter and said they believe he will face no further action from police.
In a post on Wanderers’ website, chairman Ken Anderson said the club would investigate the incident internally.
He said: ‘Off the pitch, we are aware of the situation which has been reported in the media this morning regarding Gary Madine and although we believe that no further action is being taken by the authorities, we will be looking at the matter through our own processes.’
Madine has so far netted four goals in 16 league appearances so far for the Trotters, who are currently second-bottom of the Championship.
He was believed to be dating the ex-girlfriend of disgraced fellow footballer Adam Johnson, who was jailed in 2016 for sexual activity with a minor.
However, this relationship with Stacey Flounders was ended over the summer.
