Audiences first met Vivian, Sharon, Diane and Carol back in 2018, just as the lifelong friends decided to spice things up by choosing 50 Shades Of Grey for their monthly read.

That, in turn, inspired them to do some crazy things, such as dating, and with success.

The Next Chapter trailer opens with Jane’s Vivian showing off the enormous engagement ring she received from Don Johnson’s Arthur.

‘The book says we can’t reject out destiny’ says Mary’s character Carol, ‘and I think we should all go to Italy. We might never have the chance to do something like this again.’

The foursome pack their bags and head off to enjoy a whirlwind adventure in Rome, Florence and Venice. ‘I love anything that’s falling apart more than I am,’ quips Candice’s Sharon.

But, this being a romantic comedy, things go off the rails and the foursome end up going on a once-in-a-lifetime adventure full of all kinds of unexpected twists and turns.

Book Club made more than $104 million at the box office, so a sequel was a good bet for Focus Features.

In publicity interviews released by the studio at the time, Candice Bergen explained the appeal of the story.

‘I think the friendship between the four women gives… each other the confidence to take the chance… I think if they didn’t have these friends, they wouldn’t have stepped so boldly out.’
