Bose has created a speaker for your NECK

Forget using earphones or holding a portable speaker. Bose has designed sound system that you hand on your neck.

This speaker is designed to be convenient for people who are constantly on the move as it sits on your body and can play music for up to 12 hours at a time.

For people who work from home, the device could allow them to listen to music without having to invest in multi-room speakers, the company says.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

The SoundWear Companion Wearable Speaker works in a similar way to Bluetooth headphones – except it does not block out ambient sounds.

Using the 3-button control system on the device, users can adjust music volume, alter playback and even talk to virtual assistants like Siri.

The speakers are upward-facing, meaning that sound is maximised for the wearer while minimised for those around.

An Advanced microphone means that if the user takes calls, people on the other end can clearly hear what they’re saying.

The device, created by Framingham-based audio company Bose, uses Bluetooth to pair with your phone, meaning users can take calls like normal Bluetooth speakers.

It can also be controlled through the companion iOS, Android app.

Developers say the device can play for up to three hours with a 15-minute charge.

‘This wearable speaker offers the best of both worlds—convenience and connection—in a way that allows you to be present with your music as well as your surroundings’, the company writes on its website.

‘It rests comfortably on your shoulders, with sound that is full and clear to you—yet minimises the sound for others.’

The speaker is currently only available in the US and costs $299.95 (£221).

It is due to roll out in Europe in 2018.

The electronics giant said that it delivers superior sound quality, thanks to its partnership with premium audio equipment manufacturer Harmon Kardon.

The firm added the the aluminium housing helps to deliver CD-quality audio over Bluetooth, driven by the aptX HD Audio codec, which reduces the bit rate without affecting sound quality.
