Boston Celtics stars have produced comedy gold by practising their English accents ahead of their London showdown with the Philadelphia 76ers on Thursday night.

Kyrie Irving and Al Horford were among the players who tried to replicate the English twang but failed miserably — much to the delight of Boston Celtics social media followers.

The most successful franchise in NBA history made the six-and-a-half-hour trip across the Atlantic on Monday.

Boston checked into London’s Landmark Hotel in Marylebone on their arrival in England ahead of Thursday’s game at The O2 Arena after touching down at 9:21pm (UK time).

The Celtics detailed how they travelled in style on their website with the likes of Irving and Horford able to tuck into wheat pancakes, breakfast sandwiches and ginger chicken during the flight.

Thursday night will be the league’s eighth regular-season game in London and the Celtics’ second in the capital, having played a pre-season game against the Minnesota Timberwolves in 2007.

The 76ers will be playing their second game in the UK but first in London, having previously played a pre-season game in Manchester against the Oklahoma City Thunder in 2013.

Boston will fancy their chances of sealing a win in England with the franchise top of the Eastern Conference with 33 wins and just 10 defeats this season.
