These disturbing black-and-white images from the devastating Boston Marathon terror attack have offered a new look at the 2013 atrocity.
The book, ‘Maximum Harm: The Tsarnaev Brothers, the FBI, and the Road to the Marathon Bombing’ by investigative journalist Michele R. McPhee, also reveals a link between Tamerlan Tsarnaev – who, alongside his brother Dzhokhar, was responsible for the deaths of five people – and the FBI.
One of the heartbreaking images shows a wounded Roseann Sdoia in the arms of a stranger after the April 15 bombing, while another – taken of the detonation itself by a CCTV camera inside the Forum restaurant – gives an idea of the bomb’s impact.
There is also a picture of the brothers together years before they executed the terror attack.
Another of the upsetting images shows a young and tearful Leo Woolfenden in the arms of BPD Officer Tommy Barrett as Leo’s dad was hurt in the bombing, later losing a leg.
The book also revealed that Tamerlan was hired by the FBI as a mosque crawler to inform on radical separatists despite being on terrorist watch lists.
Brothers: Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev (pictured together years before their 2013 terror attack) murdered five people between April 15 and 18 by bombing the Boston Marathon and later killing an officer with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Police Department. Another officer injured in an explosion died from his wounds a year after the attack. Tamerlan was shot several times and his brother ran him over while escaping in a stolen car. Tamerlan died but Dzhokhar was captured, tried and later sentenced to death (he is still alive in prison, aged 24)

Another image – taken of the detonation itself by a CCTV camera inside the Forum restaurant (pictured) – gives an idea of the bomb’s impact. People can be seen lying on the floor as tables and chairs have been blown away by the explosion

Before the horror: The Tsarnaev family, featuring a very young Dzhokhar. Tamerlan was born in the Soviet Union in 1986 and Dzhokhar was born in Kyrgyzstan in 1993. Dzhokhar enrolled at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and began by studying marine biology before switching to nursing. Tamerlan – who was married and had a child – was unemployed at the time of the murders

The Watertown spot where Tamerlan Tsarnaev died. The brothers were spotted in Watertown by a police officer on April 19. A gunfight then broke out, with around 300 rounds being fired and several grenades thrown. When Tamerlan ran out of ammo, he threw his gun at police before being tackled and later run over by his brother
