Boston woman’s eyeliner that stayed on after accident goes viral

A woman’s glowing review for an eyeliner pen that ‘didn’t budge’ during a car accident has gone viral after it was spotted online by an amused shopper.

Shelby, a nurse from Boston, Massachusetts, says she spent eight hours in hospital after being hit by a ‘distracted driver’ going at 55mph last June – but despite her mascara running down her face, the Kat Von D Tattoo Liner miraculously stayed put.

She even shared a selfie from what appeared to be the ambulance, showing the immaculate eyeliner flick on her face as she lay in a neck brace.

Shelby, a volunteer first responder and firefighter, has been propelled to viral fame after her review was spotted on Kat Von D’s website and shared on Twitter by Florida student Lahari Manchikanti, where it has been liked and shared more than 50,000 times in a matter of hours.

Calling the product ‘amazing’, she wrote: ‘My mascara was running down my face from crying and all other products had been wiped off in the transfer to the hospital. But not my tattoo liner.

‘I am posting a pick [sic.] to show you, this product lasts and looks amazing through anything. Never buying any other liner again.’

Sharing the five-star review on Twitter, Lahari wrote: ‘Y’all I was really out here looking for a new eyeliner and look at this review lmfaooo She deadass took a picture in her neck brace I am deceased.’

It prompted a flurry of comments from social media users, one of whom branded it ‘the best review I have ever seen in my entire life’.

Another wrote: ‘She’s right tho, that’s a hella good eyeliner.’

Following the social media storm, Shelby took to Twitter to defend her selfie writing: ‘Everyone’s hating on my review because I posted a picture of the makeup after the accident [but] 1. I took the photo for police evidence, 2. But have you ever seen such a good eyeliner?!’

Kat Von D’s cult Tattoo Liner ($20/ £16) is a liquid eyeliner boasts a ‘highly pigmented, 24-hour wear formula for bulletproof lines every time’.

Posting about the car accident on Instagram last year Shelby, who also writes a lifestyle blog, wrote:  ‘On Wednesday June 28th I was parked on the side of a highway, with my hazards on, calling for roadside assistance because I ran out of gas.

‘While on the phone for help I was hit by a driver going 56pmh. I was treated in the ER for a cervical strain, closed head injury, knee contusion and forehead lacerations.

‘I consider myself lucky to have walked away from the accident relatively unhurt and alive.’

She added: ‘The reason the other driver hit me is still not known. But I have my life and am surrounded by such great friends, coworkers and family.

‘Mahalo nui loa [thank you very much] to the paramedics, doctors and everyone else who helped me.’

This is not the first time a woman has praised her makeup for withstanding an accident; last August, a Texas resident, known only as Sofia, posted a hilarious, and rather dramatic, review of the NYX Matte Finish Makeup Setting Spray.

Writing on the beauty store Ulta’s website, she told how it survived a car crash and subsequent trip to the hospital.

And in September, an Australian teen who survived a serious car crash has posted a glowing tribute to Facebook about how her makeup lasted through the horror accident.

Alice Brewer, 19, told Daily Mail Australia she survived the car crash at 100km/h leaving her car ‘beyond recognition’ which also ‘totalled two cars’.
