Senegal winger Jackson was also strongly linked with Southampton, but the Cherries beat them to sign him – only for the hamstring issue to put Gary O’Neil’s side off.

Jackson will return to Villareal, where he has scored two goals and crafted two assists in 14 LaLiga fixtures.

The 20-year-old was part of Senegal’s World Cup squad, which made it to the last-16 of the tournament in Qatar last month.

Meanwhile, Semenyo faced no such problems with his deal from Bristol City, with the 23-year-old penning a four-and-a-half year deal at the Vitality Stadium.

Semenyo has scored five goals and claimed two assists across 22 Bristol City games in the Championship this term.

He featured for Ghana in their World Cup fixtures against Portugal and Uruguay.

Bournemouth chief executive Neill Blake told the club’s website: ‘Antoine is an exciting player and one we have monitored for a while.

‘He had interest from elsewhere and so we’re delighted to welcome him to the club.’

Bournemouth return to action on February 4 away at Brighton, before further league matches next month against Newcastle, Wolves and Man City.
