Boxer Harry Garside says he enjoys fasting after revealing he will abstain from sex for 85 days as he focuses on winning gold at Paris Olympics

Harry Garside is taking a unique approach to his training ahead of the Paris Olympics.

Taking to Instagram on Sunday, the professional boxer, 26, admitted he enjoys fasting during long flights, calling it a ‘good mental challenge.’

In his post, Garside shared a photo of himself on a plane as he prepared for a journey from Manchester to Sydney.

‘You know what I love doing. Fasting when doing big flights,’ he wrote.

‘It’s real hit and miss if I can sleep on flights so to just sit there bored out of your brains and restrict all food options is such a good mental challenge.’

‘Next time I will eat is when I touch down in Sydney,’ he added.

Last month Garside admitted that he feels incredibly anxious about his self-imposed 85 day chastity vow, made so he could focus on the 2024 Paris Olympics.

The professional boxer told Fox FM’s Fifi, Fev and Nick he had some reservations about whether he made the vow for the right reasons.

‘I am very nervous, 85 days is such a long time, but you got to do what you got to do if you want that gold medal,’ he began.

‘I don’t know if I am doing it for good reasons or if I have issues. I think a bit of both to be completely honest.’

The Melbourne-born pugilist successfully completed a similar challenge while competing in the Tokyo Olympics in 2020, in order to be in the right headspace.

‘We all have desires and things we want to do, including what we are talking about, but if we can abstain from things we want to do, the stronger I feel mentally,’ he said at the time.

‘I think it helps my mental performance which I think is the most important thing.’

Harry previously spoke to The Project about his plans for the Australian boxing team to bring home four Olympic gold medals this year.

‘We’re going to win multiple, I’m going to be one of them. We are going to win plenty, I’m calling it at four medals,’ he began.

‘I think we have a massive chance and leading into the Brisbane 2032 Olympics, let’s hope we can inspire some people.’

After winning bronze at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, Garside has made it no secret that he’s going after Australia’s first Olympic gold medal in boxing, competing in the lightweight division of the sport.
