Boxing Day revellers ignore the chill and hit the streets

Boxing Day partygoers were dressed to impress tonight as they ignored the chilly temperatures and hit the streets to continue the Christmas celebrations.

Hundreds were pictured getting in to the festive spirit as they took to bars and clubs in Wigan city centre to party the night away in fancy dress, an annual tradition for the Lancashire town.

Many donned glamorous attire for the evening’s festivities, while others wore near to nothing as they braved single-figure temperatures.

Some of the best looks of the night came from partygoers wearing character-inspired fancy dress, with one group going as the gang from cartoon show Scooby Doo and another group dressed as the characters from Toy Story.

Among the sleekest looks were a group of girls  1960s-style hippies, followed closely behind by a party in glamourous Gatsby-inspired attire.

Another group of men were dressed up as superheroes and dogs, while a group of three women donned their tennis whites.

Meanwhile 60 miles away in Leeds revellers were getting a little more carried away – some literally – as the festive period appeared to take its toll.

Although not in fancy dress, partygoers in the West Yorkshire city still showed they knew how to party hard in the run-up to New Years Eve celebrations next week.

When some festive drinkers couldn’t appear to handle themselves help was on hand – in the form of shopping trolleys as an alternative form of transport to taxis.
