‘It’s the only thing I’ve got’: Boxing fan begs Chris Eubank Jr to sign his MICROWAVE ahead of his fight with Wanik Awdijan in Newcastle on Saturday night

  • Ahead of his fight, Eubank Jr was stopped outside a hotel to sign autographs
  • One supporter even asked the British middleweight boxer to sign his microwave
  • The young lad who was dressed in a black jacket said: ‘it’s the only thing I’ve got’

Chris Eubank Jr was asked to sign a boxing fan’s microwave ahead of his fight with Wanik Awdijan on Saturday night.

The British middleweight boxer was stopped on the street outside Hotel Indigo in Newcastle on Thursday night.

He was swarmed by fans asking for pictures and autographs. However, one supporter ran up the street carrying a microwave and bizarrely asked the 32-year-old to sign it.

The young lad – seen wearing a black jacket and a baseball cap – was filmed holding a white microwave in the middle of the street.

He made it way over to Eubank Jr and pulled out a Sharpie pen. He was then heard saying: ‘It’s the only thing I’ve got’ as he asked the boxer to sign it.

Eubank Jr – who was clearly shocked to have been asked to sign a kitchen appliance – initially, he said: ‘Nah, not the microwave!’

However, the British middleweight boxer quickly changed his mind and handed his hold-all bag over to a friend.

Eubank Jr then grabbed the sharpie and signed the top of the microwave – a moment I’m sure he won’t forget.

Onlookers were equally as shocked to see the 32-year-old signing a kitchen appliance. One fan said: ‘A microwave? What the hell?’

While another supporter added: ‘I can’t believe I’m seeing this.’

The incident took place ahead of Eubank Jr’s fight with Awdijan on Saturday night. Awdijan has only ever boxed in Germany or Austria and will be looking to get his first win on UK soil.

However, Eubank Jr does not seem phased by the 26-year-old, having previously called his opponent out for being ‘scared’.

Eubank Jr said at Thursday’s press conference: ‘I’m disappointed in this man here because he had so much to say online. So much heat and energy came from his social media.

‘Now? I see a man who doesn’t have the same fire. This is your shot, kid. You had a lot to say on social media.’

Eubank Jr went on to criticise Awdijan further by saying: ‘I’m disappointed because you said I was scared.’

Awdijan responded saying: ‘You were! Don’t be fooled by my appearance. I will have the same energy.’

Before Eubank Jr added: ‘I want to make sure that you understand this – before you said the things that you said, you were just a guy that I needed to beat to get to the next guy. There was no malice.

‘After seeing the things you said? I have a reason to terrorise you. I hope you understand the position you have put yourself in.’

Nevertheless, Awdijan is confident he can beat Eubank Jr – having previously said: ‘Everyone is beatable, even him. He’s a human, like me. He has two losses, too.’
