A 10-year-old boy has been attacked by a two-metre bronze whaler shark while snorkelling at a popular tourist spot in Western Australia. 

The child was 75 metres from the shore when he was attacked at Five Finger Reef near Coral Bay, which is about 1000 kilometres north of Perth.

Authorities were alerted to the foot bite at Friday 11.14am.

The young boy has been airlifted to Perth Children’s Hospital, and his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

The popular spot for snorkelling is only accessible by four-wheel-drive. 

A spear fisherman was bitten at the same spot in March year but escaped when he punched the shark.
