The family didn’t realize, however, that he might be tempted to see what might happen if used the glass to magnify the sun’s rays.

‘We discovered that he and his two brothers went out on the driveway and burned a couple holes in some paper,’ she wrote on the Facebook post.

‘Everything was under control until the boys came running into the house telling us that a corner of the lawn was on fire and the Christmas lights were melting!’ explains the mom, who rushed out with other family members to find the very dry lawn fast-turning black’ because of the fire.

The adults grabbed buckets of water and turned on the sprinklers to stop the small fire and keep it from spreading to a neighbor’s lawn.

‘What a sight to see – a bunch of people running around crazy trying to put a front lawn fire out while wearing matching Christmas jammies!’ wrote Parsons in her Facebook post.

The mother insisted to all, ‘this was an accident’.

‘It could have been worse but it wasn’t,’ she explains. ‘So instead of a tragedy it will now be a Christmas to remember! 2019- The Christmas the lawn lit on fire’.

She added one disclaimer: ‘Oh and never buy a magnifying glass for your son!’

Parsons did not immediately respond when DailyMail.com reached out.
