A teenage boy died after he struck his head on a piece of metal while riding the exterior of a train on New York’s subway Saturday night, authorities said.

The fatal ‘subway surfing’ incident happened about 8:45 p.m., when the youth fell from a Manhattan-bound 7 train at the Queensboro Plaza station, reports the Metropolitan Transportation Authority.

The surfer, who has not been identified, was found about 20 feet beyond the elevated, outdoor station, police said.

Authorities bagged the body of the boy and carried it out of the station, bound for the medical examiner's office to confirm the cause of his death

He is believed to be about 14, said cops.

It was not clear if the youth was clinging to the side or rear of the train car, or whether he was possibly on top. 

An NYPD spokesperson did not immediately respond when DailyMail.com reached out for an update.

One of the youths told the news outlet that he blamed himself. 

‘It’s my fault’, the youth told the News. ‘I always go up with him when he asks me. I should have told him no’.
