Boy, 14, is arrested after five teenagers were shot at a birthday party in Indiana

A 14-year-old boy has been arrested after five young people were injured in a shooting at a teenager’s birthday party in Indianapolis.

The shooting happened Saturday night just after 10.30pm at the clubhouse of the Lawrence Lions Club.

Police in Lawrence responded after a fight between two people at the party escalated into a fight between two groups in which several shots were fired. 

Daron Johnson, 14, was identified by his family as the teen in critical condition after he was shot in the face.

The teen was arrested Sunday morning on charges of criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon and minor possession of a weapon.

He was then taken to a juvenile detention center. Police are still trying to determine whether anyone else fired shots.

Police initially reported four young people ages 13 and 14 were hurt, but later determined a fifth was taken to a hospital by family members. 

Another 14-year-old was shot in the torso and is in stable condition. 

The other three victims had non-life threatening injuries to the hands, legs or body.

Officers from the Lawrence Police Department said there were several dozen people inside the building at the time of the shooting, including numerous parents.  

The shooting remains under investigation.
